The adventure is constantly moving and the combat is frantic and always evolving. You won’t come back to the game for its intriguing storyline or incredible graphics what brings you back to this world time and time again is the addictive and polished gameplay that the game provides both online and off. While it does the expected, it does it well well enough in fact that Dungeon Hunter could serve as a poster child for “how” to make a game in this genre, at least from a basic standpoint. Numerous visits to the same environments? Check. If there is anything else that you can think of that should be in a game like this, it is here. You have a wide variety of missions, experience leveling and attribute points, and an in-game economic system driven by the discovery and barter of rare goods and items. Dungeon Hunter does little to break the mold set for the loot-dropping, action-RPG genre and that may be one of the smartest decisions that Gameloft made in the development of the title. If you have played one game in the genre, you should know exactly what to expect. The main story of the game is driven by a linear string of missions, all driving the main tale portrayed by the game, but the adventure will also offer players with many optional excursions that will allow them to extend their experience if they wish. After fighting your way to the surface, while being briefed on the current-world situation awaiting you above, you will begin an adventure driven by quests and missions provided by townsfolk and former followers. Once your character has been created, you will awake from your eternal slumber and enter into a the bowels of the Royal Tomb. The warrior is your typical offensive powerhouse, the mage relies more on magical abilities and spells, and the rogue is all about speed and precise striking. Each class plays exactly as you would expect them to based on the precedents set by the genre. You will choose between a warrior, mage and a rogue. After deciding on a name, you are given a choice between one of three classes which will determine the fighting style and weapon choices for your character. Players will be put in charge of creating their character who assumes the role of the awakened King. While it is far from the most original story, it more than serves its purpose to set the backdrop for the adventure that lies ahead for gamers. Thanks to the power of a fairy by the name of Celeste, the King (your created character) is awakened within his tomb and brought back to the world that he once ruled. Many years have passed since the King fell and the people of Gothicus have nearly given up all hope. Following the death of their King, the kingdom has fallen into a period of darkness under the oppressive fist of a mourning queen who has taken to destroying the empire built by her deceased husband. The game tells the tale of the mythical world of Gothicus. In addition to the new features, all of the game’s visuals have been improved to meet the standards of modern generation titles running in 720P the game looks leaps and bounds better than its mobile, source material. Dungeon Hunter: Alliance is an updated version of that original game which includes a slightly revamped storyline and the addition of both offline and online cooperative multiplayer. Sure, the adventure was the definition of linear and “by the book," but it was solid and most importantly: a lot of fun. To put it in terms that I know I use far too much, the game was a lot better than it had any right to be. After an impressive PSN debut with Modern Combat: Domination, the French developer is back with another one of their original IP’s in the form of Dungeon Hunter: alliance for the PlayStation Network.ĭungeon Hunter was originally released on the iOS platform back in late 2009 the title took iPhone and iPod Touch users by surprise, providing an incredible action-RPG experience comparable to the famed Diablo series, only in portable form. The company is making a steady push to establish their selves as a player in gaming, period, be it mobile or console. Gameloft, a juggernaut in the mobile gaming industry, isn’t content with just claiming their share of the gaming industry on cellular devices.

Spoon over a generous helping of beans and top with the cheese. To serve, break the potato open and fluff up the flesh with a fork. When it is done, turn the oven off and leave the potato in for 15 minutes while you reheat the beans. Season with salt and pepper and set aside.įor the purple slaw, mix the cabbage, radishes, onion, coriander and lime juice in a bowl and season with salt and pepper.Ĭheck the potato is cooked through by piercing with a blunt knife. Add the black beans and stock and simmer gently for 20–30 minutes or until the liquid has evaporated and the beans are soft and starting to disintegrate. Add the cumin and chilli flakes and fry for a further 2 minutes until soft and fragrant. Meanwhile, heat the remaining olive oil in a small saucepan over a medium heat and fry the onion and garlic for 2 minutes. Pierce the skin several times with a sharp knife and place directly onto the top shelf of the oven and bake for 1 hour. Rub the sweet potato all over with half a teaspoon of the olive oil and some salt. I set the timer for 15 minutes then take them out and flip the wedges over and again sprinkle with salt, pepper and garlic powder.Preheat the oven to 200C/180C Fan/Gas 6 and place a sheet of kitchen foil on the middle shelf. Then, I sprinkle them with salt, pepper and garlic powder. To warm up the sweet potatoes, place desired amount in the microwave and heat for 35-40 second bursts until heated. I put the wedges in a big bowl and make sure they are all lightly covered with oil before putting them in a flat, single layer on parchment paper lined cookie sheet(s). How to warm up Oven Baked Sweet Potatoes. I scrub them, leave the skins on and cut them into wedges. I use anywhere from 4-6 sweet potatoes depending on how many I am cooking for. My way is a little meticulous but the potatoes turn out great. My daughter and I use this same recipe and she says mine always turn out better. (We made them again tonight and I saw your comment when I looked up the recipe). Hi Sally! I have been making these roasted sweet potatoes from healthy-liv for several years. Massage the oil and seasoning into the skin. Hope you love these crispy roasted sweet potatoes as much as I do! If you make them, feel free to let me know in a comment or take a picture and tag me on Instagram! Drizzle the olive oil over the sweet potatoes, and season with salt and pepper. Last thing– I purchased this baking sheet from Amazon several month ago, and the raised edges make it a dream for roasting veggies! I like to cover it with this natural parchment paper for easy clean-up. Over the past couple of weekends, I’ve prepped sweet potatoes ahead of time to have with lunches and dinners throughout the week, and when I get hungry, I’m so glad I have sweet potatoes ready to go! That way, they’re more versatile and can go along with more main dishes! While cinnamon, sugar, and sweet potatoes have a place together on the Thanksgiving table, I’ve found that I actually prefer savory spices like salt, pepper, and garlic on my roasted sweet potatoes. While you can definitely cut them into thick strips, they’ll be softer rather than crispy, and they’ll take longer to cook.Ĭ) Using savory spices instead of sweet spices. My favorite way to make them is just peeling some of the skin, so it’s crispy and you get that great flavor, but without the chewiness of all of the skin.ī) Cutting the potatoes into small wedges or thin strips. I’ve experimented with numerous variations of roasted sweet potatoes and here’s what I’ve found I like the best:Ī) Not fully peeling the sweet potatoes. The skin gets crispy and crinkly, it has lots of great nutrients, and not having to peel the potatoes is a big time-saver. Just make sure that you wash and scrub them so they’re really clean. My main requirement is that they HAVE to be crispy, because who likes mushy potatoes? You can leave the skin on or peel it, cut them into circles, long wedges like fries, or smaller cubes, and season them with either sweet or savory spices. Roasted sweet potatoes are so versatile, and I’ve experimented with making them several different ways. The game was developed by AMPLITUDE Studios – makers of Endless Space (link to our review) and demonstrates – as does their other 2014 release Endless Legend – that the dev team is getting better and better with each new release. Then, jump back into the Station and try to get out - again.Dungeon of the Endless pits you against an army of varied alien races drawn towards the power of a crystal kept in the cargo of the spaceship you just crashed. Think of it as your center of operations (and beverages), where you can upgrade your heroes and weapons, unlock new paths to The Core, chat with the locals, listen to tunes, and drink boosting (and delicious) libations. But that's okay, because every time you do, you get reloaded back into the Saloon. Hate to break it to you, this won't be easy and you might die… a lot. Why does the Station reel in any ship that flies too close? Why do you come back every time you kick the bucket? No matter how familiar you are with the ENDLESS™ Universe, the Station has more stories to tell. The deeper you delve into this scrap heap, the more you'll discover its tragic history. You'll likely die trying, but hey, that's the way it goes in this space dungeon! When you're set, enter the Station to take on a character's quest, take a stab at escaping, or just go loco on the locals. Pick their weapons from a wide choice ranging from flamethrowers to poison snipers. Once you've got your posse, plan your moves. You can check how much of your library is playable on the Steam Deck using Valve’s Steam Deck Compatibility website. This is thankfully relatively small at the moment, and mainly relates to games where you need certain hardware that's not supported on the Steam Deck, such as virtual reality titles. There's also an 'Unsupported' category which means games definitely won't run. Then, there’s the ‘Unknown’ category, where there’s not enough information to know how well a game plays. At the moment, most of your Steam library will likely fall into this category. These games are ‘playable’ but not fully tested, and there may be some issues getting them to run. There are also games that have yellow ticks. Default graphical settings and control options work well, and all menus and text will be legible. Games with a green tick in the Steam Library UI means they’re Steam Deck verified, and will run without any issues. Valve has a simple way of identifying which games can run on the Steam Deck. And some games – especially ones using anti-cheat software – won’t run. Valve has helped work on a nifty solution, known as Proton, which lets you play games on Linux, but it’s not perfect. This is mainly due to the Steam Deck running on Linux – specifically Steam OS 3.0 – while many Steam games are Windows only. However, buying a game on Steam doesn’t necessarily mean it will run on the Steam Deck. If you buy a Nintendo Switch game, you can expect it to work on your Nintendo Switch. Game support is one of those rough edges. This versatility puts the Steam Deck above its traditional competitors, and while people looking for a Nintendo Switch-like experience may not be sold, for PC gamers thinking about getting a gaming laptop, the Steam Deck is a brilliant device with a huge amount of potential, especially for people who like to tweak. You can even install other operating systems, such as Windows 11. You can also use the Steam Deck in desktop mode, allowing you to install a variety of Linux apps, turning the Steam Deck into a fully-fledged mini PC. You can plug in pretty much any USB-C hub, hook up a monitor or TV and play games on the big screen. Some of the rough edges of the Steam Deck are a part of its charm, however, and in some cases are due to the flexibility of the device, which traditional consoles just can’t offer. However, if you’re a console player who’s used to more polished products that keep things as simple and straightforward as possible, you may be disappointed. This means if you’re a PC gamer with a large Steam library, and you’re used to the quirks and annoyances that come with playing PC games, then you’ll likely love the Steam Deck and overlook its rougher edges. However, as much as you may think the Steam Deck is a Nintendo Switch rival, it’s actually more of an alternative to gaming laptops. It’s certainly an ambitious task, but one that Valve mostly pulls off. The Steam Deck is one of the most eagerly anticipated product launches in recent times, with Valve trying its hand at making a handheld console. Check out our original review below to see if a Steam Deck is a good fit for you. We loved the Steam Deck when we first tested it out in February 2022 despite some of its flaws, so the most recent updates truly showcase the potential of the Steam Deck. The Steam Deck’s continual updates show that it’s a handheld system steadily improving from its already impressive reviews. The only drawback of the fan update is the slightly raised temperature of the Steam Deck CPU. However, it’s said that the latest Steam Deck update has tried to correct the fan whining, reducing the fan’s pitch and making it run almost silently. One issue that hasn’t quite been solved yet is the whine from the Steam Deck’s fan which can be high-pitched and grating, even if it isn’t particularly loud. Users can now switch between windows in the same application, like web browser tabs. Valve is working on other keyboard layouts as well, including Korean, Japanese, and Chinese. There have been multiple Steam Deck keyboard updates resulting in 21 different languages and various layouts available beyond the standard QWERTY English keyboard. Image filters can take your photos a long way. But to get you started, I thought I would go over 11 fantastic ways to use these filters in your image editing. While you’re there, play with the filters and settings inside of PhotoScape to find amazing features that will work well for your brand. I encourage you to watch that video to understand the full capabilities of this part of the program. I did a previous video that went over all of the features of the photo editing feature in PhotoScape v3.7 where I went over this area briefly. For this video, we will be working with version 3.7 know that everything we do here you can also do in X. If you are not interested in learning complicated software, then version 3.7 is ideal. On the other hand, PhotoScape v3.7 is relatively simple and straightforward to use. X has an interface that it’s more like Adobe Lightroom and has a much more polished and professional feel. PhotoScape X does have an upgrade feature for more editing options and added stickers, but for the most part, they do the same work. There are two versions available for this software, X, and V3.7. What Version of PhotoScape is Right for You? With online editors and camera apps, you can edit from anywhere and on any device (provided you have the photos available). In fact, I did a 48 video roundup on Canva tutorials that show just how flexible that platform is for bloggers. A program like this does not take the place of an online editor like Canva or Fotor when it comes to the convenience of being able to access it from anywhere. If you like to do your graphics editing without the distractions of being online then definitely keep this tool in your arsenal. Increased productivity is always a great perk, that in addition to its batching features and you’re set. A desktop program that is not web-based like PhotoScape can save you tons of time in this way. When working online, if you tend to gravitate towards your email inbox or are distracted by social media pop-up notifications PhotoScape is your solution. If you’re working at a desktop most of the time and you want to work without distraction, this desktop software is perfect for you. This feature is something not supported with Canva, camera apps, and other online image editing software. Not to mention the fact that it can handle RAW images and other large format files. Once you learn all that it can do you won’t want to be without it. In fact, it will probably become a staple in your design toolbox. PhotoScape is much more powerful, and it’s a great addition to your editing tools.Did I mention the filters that you cannot Replicate using most online editors? PhotoScape is free software, it is accessible off-line, and it has a wide range of capabilities such as batch editing, batch resizing. The ability to use your fonts and the fantastic filters you can’t get from a lot of online editors without paying for it. Are using an online program like Canva? PhotoScape is an excellent alternative to online editors not for convenience but rather for functionality and branding flexibility. The following is a loose transcript of the video. Please note, the link to download this software is NOT as described in the video. We’re drilling deep into PhotoScape filters and photo effects, and I’m still not going to cover every filter this software has to offer! Yeah, that was a mouth full, but that’s because this program has so many tools and features! Today we’re focusing on one small aspect of a full suite of photo editing features. In this post, I’m going to give you a detailed look at the filters section of the edit feature in PhotoScape. This free open source software is a must-have for creating unique effects super-fast and easy. Even though this amazing software can do so much more than just cool photo effects, I’ll show you eleven different photo effects, and filters available in PhotoScape. I like that it is possible to improve sharpness with ease by dragging corresponding sliders.Cool photo effects and filters for free? Yup. You can transform a photo taken in summer into a captivating autumn picture, as well as affect specific color ranges. While working in this module, you can instantly remove wrinkles, make teeth naturally white, get rid of blemishes, enhance facial features, and more.Īnother bragging point is advanced color settings that turn landscape photo editing into an enjoyable activity. The editor is a real finding for portrait photographers because of its portrait magic module. Besides, you can take advantage of intelligent color balancing, exposure settings, and lighting correction. It is possible to edit pictures one by one or activate a batch processing mode for quicker results. It allows making tweaks and correcting colors automatically. Verdict: Using PhotoWorks, you no longer need to adjust curves and levels manually, but can fully rely on this user-friendly AI photo editor. Run this command to further reduce the size: Further Reducing the Size Using Gifsicle (Optional)Īlthough we have reduced the size of the GIF by reducing the frame rate and scaling down the video, the size can be further reduced by using Gifsicle, a command-line tool for creating, editing, and getting information about GIFs. The values of these two arguments can be tweaked depending on the quality and size of the GIF you need. The height is set to -1 to keep the aspect ratio and will be set automatically.įile sizes before and after reducing frame rate and scaling downįrom the comparison above, it can be noticed that reducing the frame rate and size of the video before converting it to a GIF reduces the size of the GIF significantly from 7.0MB to 1.1MB. scale resizes the video where the first parameter is the width and the second one is the height.fps specifies the frame rate of the output GIF.The palette is generated by adding the following argument to the basic FFmpeg conversion command:įfmpeg -ss 23.0 -t 1.8 -i input.mp4 -i palette.png -filter_complex " fps=10,scale=320:-1 paletteuse" output_trimmed_enhanced_reduced.gif It extracts a color palette of the video by creating a base image and applying all changes as layers on top of the base image. The palettegen filter is a filter that generates a 256-color palette to be used in GIF encoding. Enhancementįrom FFmpeg v2.6 and above, it has two important filters which are very useful in creating a high-quality GIF: palettegen and paletteuse. However, we can use the palettegen and paletteuse filters of FFmpeg to generate a custom palette from the colors in our original video to create a higher-quality GIF. By default, FFmpeg uses a generic 256-color palette for every GIF encoding and doesn’t take into account the colors in the input video. This causes the compression to be less efficient and takes up more space.īesides that, the quality of the GIF is also suboptimal as a GIF file is limited to only 256 colors. H.264, H.265) and only encodes changes from frame to frame, every frame in the GIF file is coded on its own. This is because, unlike the original MP4 video which is usually coded in a lossy format (eg. Even the file size of the 1.8-second GIF (3.8MB) is also larger than the original video which is around 2 minutes long.Ī comparison of the sizes of the input video and the output GIFs If you compare the size of the original video and the GIF output, you will notice that the file size of the GIF (112MB) is significantly larger than the original video (3MB).
